RAILROAD RUMBLINGS
Intelligence was received in the city the early part of the week of the death of W.H. Sanford. The New York Herald says:
"At his residence, 30 West 128th street, on July 18, William H. Sanford, in the 71st year of his age. Funeral private. Interment at Westport, Connecticut."

Mr. Sanford was freight agent of the Katy in the 70s. He was also one of the first bank presidents in Denison. He resigned to accept the position of President of the First National. We think it was about 1880 that Mr. Sanford left here and went to Gainesville, where he was agent of the Denison and Pacific railway for some time. Mr. Sanford left Gainesville and located in New York City, where he had a clerkship with the New York Central. W.H. Sanford will only be remembered by the pioneers of Denison. In his day and prime he was one of the best known and most popular railway men in the State. In those days there were not over 500 miles or railway in the State; whereas, at present there is several thousand. He was an ideal railway official, as popular with his employees as with the company, Agent Sanford was highly esteemed by the business men of Denison. He was a great mixer with the people; in fact, he divided half his time with the office and the other half with up-town friends. He was a remarkably poised man, nothing, in fact, seemed to disturb his equanimity. One of the most admirable traits of his character was his devotion to his family and his loyalty to his friends.
Mr. Sanford had 3 daughters, beautiful, cultured ladies. The pioneers are fast passing to their last sleep, and in a few years the number left can be counted on the fingers. There has been none more notable, and whose memory will be more revered than William H. Sanford.

Editor's Note: Mr. Sanford is buried with his family in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport, Fairfield Co., Connecticut.
