Missouri ~ Kansas ~ Texas Railroad Ray Yards The round house was a place where trains (or at least engines) drove onto a
turntable which rotated, enabling the engine to head out in the direction from
which it had come. In Denison's history, several of these existed.
Above picture is of an early MKT roundhouse (ca. 1895, from Art Work of Grayson County) located near the current MKT Depot. It can be seen in the 1891 Bird's Eye Map of Denison, I believe. The round house in the calendar, dated early 1940s, was on the north edge of Denison, at Ray Yards. In Denison's history, several round houses existed.
