Friday, April 24, 1908 KATY HOSPITAL ARRIVALS Arrivals at the Katy hospital in Sedalla, Missouri, are reported by the Democrat-Sentinel as follows: John R. Douglass, bridgeman, New Franklin, Missouri Harry Lanahan, machinist's apprentice, Parsons, Kansas J.P. Moran, machinist, Parsons, Kansas Arnold Dixon, dishwasher, Nevada, Missouri J.E. Franks, blacksmiths' helper, Parsons, Kansas J.H. Brown, trucker, Denison, Texas Harry Davis, porter, dining station, Atoka, Oklahoma LOCAL RAILROAD NOTES W.B. McMurray, a Katy switchman, was resigned. J.A. Newsome, a switchman in the Katy yards, here, has resigned. C.F. Maier, an engineer on the Katy, is laying off on account of sickness. O.M. Conley, commercial agent for the Frisco at St. Louis, is in the city today. W.R. Conner, a brakeman on the North Texas division of the Katy, has resigned. A.L. Clark, a fireman on the Choctaw division of the Katy, is taking a few days off. James Sullivan, roadmaster on the Frisco, was in the city last night. M.R. Anderson, traveling auditor for the Frisco, was in the city today on business. J.W. White, who has been braking on the North Texas division of the Katy, has resigned. J.T. Hollis, an engineer on the North Texas division of the Katy, is reported on the sick list. Fred Werine, an engineer on the North Texas division of the Katy, is laying off a few days. D.H. Wager, a switchman who has been working in the Katy yards here for some time, has resigned. O.L. Young, a switchman on the Katy here, is laying off for a few days and is visiting in Dallas. H.P. Morehead, a conductor on the Choctaw division of the Katy, is laying off on account of sickness. E.D. Smith, a passenger engineer on the G.H. & W. branch of the Katy, is laying off for a few days' rest. T.C. Kingsley, who has been braking on the North Texas division of the Katy here for some time, has resigned. E.M. Oldham, a brakeman on the Choctaw Division of the Katy, is laying off to visit his brother in Oklahoma City. W.S. Short, a brakeman on the Choctaw division of the Katy, who has been off for several days, has reported for work. G.E. Tucker, a fireman on the Choctaw division of the Katy, has been assigned to passenger runs No. 8 and 1, with Engineer C.F. McComas. Gordon Riley, an employe of the Katy shops here, accompanied by Mrs. Riley, leaves this afternoon for a visit with friends and relatives at Whitewright. Harry Horton, a fireman on the North Texas division of the Katy, who has been off for several days on account of sickness, has reported for work. H.S. Wallace, a conductor on the North Texas division of the Katy, has gone to Dallas, where he will take the bum run between that place and the South Yards. C.I. Turner, who has been running the day lead engine in the Katy yards here, on account of that being pulled off, has bumped Chas. Ellington off the day rip track job. Engine No. 436 is being prepared for a trip to the Katy shops at Parsons, Kansas, and as soon as she comes in No. 527 will also be sent up there for a complete overhauling. R.R. Fain, a fireman on the North Texas division of the Katy, who has been hosteling nights at the Katy roundhouse for about 2 weeks, has been returned to the road. J.T. Moore, a Katy machinist, has returned from a visit to relatives at Chickasha, Oklahoma. He has been laying off for 5 weeks on account of ill health, and is only slightly improved. R.A. Harris, a fireman on the Fannin County Flyer on the Katy, who has been off for several days, has returned to work and J.G. Nix who has who has been on the job, will fight the extra board. R.C. Tuel, an engineer on the Choctaw division of the Katy; H.R. Wilson, his fireman; and Conductor George Frarey, have returned after taking the piledriver to the Osage branch. For the first time since the settling basin was made at the Katy roundhouse it is being cleaned out. The basin is in 2 sections and one was drained at a time, there being over a foot of settlings. Ed Gilliam, much better known as "Pork Chops," one of oldest porters on the Katy here from a service standpoint, has resigned and will go to the Frisco. "Pork Chops" is one of the best know porters in the state. J.A. Rowell, a brakeman on the North Texas division of the Katy, has resigned on account of the illness of his father who resides in Oklahoma. Mr. Rowell returns home to take charge of his father's business until such time as he can attend to it himself. Lee Parker, a well known and popular Katy fireman, has given up his work on account of suffering from consumption, and, accompanied by his wife, left Wednesday for Mexico for an indefinite stay. A party of members of Grayson Lodge No. 51, L.S. and Red River Lodge No. 8, B. of L. F. & E. accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Parker to the station to see them off. Mrs. Parker has been an officer in the Grayson Lodge, and as a token of remembrance was given a pretty signet hat pin with the number 51 engraved on it, and a large bouquet of flowers. The brotherhood gave Mr. Parker a lodge charm as a parting gift. The committee prepared a tempting lunch for the travelers, who departed amid many good wishes. A.H. Preston, an engineer on the Choctaw division of the Katy, has bumped W.W. Sinclair off the ditcher at Durant, Oklahoma. This is Mr. Preston's first work since his injury in the wreck near Colbert, Oklahoma on the 10th of last July. Horace M.
