Saturday, October 9, 1875 pg.4 FATAL ACCIDENT This morning about 5:30 o'clock a shocking accident occurred at Stringtown, I.T., about 58 miles north of here, which resulted in the death of Ed. Tobin, a brakesman on the M.K. & T. Railway. Tobin was braking on No. 7, Jones Conductor, coming in. No. 7 went onto the switch at Stringtown to wait for No. 2, out, Alvord, conductor. Tobin went forward to watch the switch while waiting for No. 2, and it appears, sat down on the main track, and must have fallen asleep. When No. 2 came up the engine and entire train passed over his body, mangling it in a shocking manner. The body was discovered after No. 2 had passed, and was taken up, and placed on No. 7, which will arrive here about 10 o'clock. Ed. Tobin is a son of Mr. Tobin, proprietor of the Alamo Restaurant. The family received the sad intelligence early this morning and are severely stricken with their loss. No blame is attached to any of the employes of the road, and the accident is to be deplored. Sunday, October 10, 1875 pg. 5 TERRIBLE ACCIDENT The Cresset issued an extra Saturday morning, containing the particulars of a shocking and fatal accident, which occurred at Strington, on the M.K. & T. early that morning. E.J. Tobin was breaking on No. 7, which was standing on the switch waiting for No. 2. Tobin went forward to watch the arrival of No. 2, and it is supposed sat down on the track and fell asleep. The engine and entire train of No. 2 passed over him, mangling his body in a terrible manner. The body was discovered as soon as the train passed, but life was extinct. The corpse arrived in this city about 11 o'clock and was buried about 1 o'clock. Mr. Tobin's father and mother reside in this city and kee the Alama restaurant. It is a terrible blow to them, and they are stricken down with grief. They have the heartfelt sympathy of our community.
