East Sherman Street Railroad, Etc.

SHERMAN, Dec. 16 - The subject of street railways is the all absorbing one in that portion of East Sherman known as Gospel Ridge, just at present. That they mean business there can be no doubt, and if the present plans are carried out, the scheme, which is to connect East Sherman and Gray's Hill, will be an extensive one. It is proposed to start at a point near the head of College street, about a block south of Austin College, to run west on College street to Walnut, thence south on Walnut street to Pecan, thence west on Pecan to Crockett, thence north on Crockett to Houston street and the post offices, thence west on Houston street to Cemetery avenue on Gray's Hill and thence north on Cemetery avenue to the city cemetery, making a continuous line of two miles, in the line of which will be Austin College, the proposed freight office of the St. Louis, Arkansas and Texas Railroad, the Franklin Public School House, the opera house, the Binkley
and Beiler hotels, the post office and the city cemetery, making in all nine very important stations. It is also proposed to touch at the one where Railroad avenue would intersect College street if opened out and run a tap from the main line to the Union depot, putting another very important place on the line. The gentlemen who have the matter in charge are
not given to vain blowing but mean what they say about it, are amply able to build it and from present indications intend to do so in the very near future.
