Luther Andruss Owner & Proprietor of Denison Bicycle Shop Luther
Andruss was born April 4, 1860 in Anderson, Texas, a son of C.G. and
M.A. Andruss, born in Tennessee.
In January 1896, Luther Andruss married Miss Flora Stroube, native of Denison. ("Early Days in Denison." The Sunday Gazetteer, Sunday, August 20, 1911, pg. 3). According to the 1900 Denison census, Luther, Flora and 4-year-old son Alvin lived at 1001 Johnston Street. VICTORIA
MOTOR CYCLE
The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, May 13, 1894 pg. 6 Luther Andruss will soon astonish the people of Denison with a vehicle which runs by kerosene oil and compressed air, known as the Victoria Motor Cycle. This vehicle will carry 2 or 3 persons run over all kinds of roads, and equal a horse in speed. The motor power costs but a few cents a day. Mr. Andruss advertised in the
1898-1899 Denison/Sherman City Directory as a dealer & repairer
for bicycles, Kodaks, and typewriters, including photographs and
supplies. His business was located at 503 Main Street.
In September 1909 Luther Andruss and family left Denison for the sunny state of Florida. (The Sunday Gazetteer, Sunday, September 26, 1909) He embarked upon the business of building winter cottages at St. Petersburg, Florida, for winter visitors. (The Sunday Gazetteer, Sunday, November 14, 1909) In 1918 Luther applied for a passport on July 26th, stating that his permanent residence was at St. Petersburg, Florida and his occupation was that of "renting property".
