Yes, we can varnish your buggy, make it look like a new one. F.C. Christians (adv.) Mrs. D.M. Martindale has returned from a visit with Sherman relatives. For weeks Whitewright society has been in a happy state of expectancy, at the approaching marriage of Miss Fannie Bryant, one of Whitewright's most charming and accomplished belles, to Mrs. Bright Fielder, a substantial business man of Sherman, Texas. Dugal Mason, formerly of the Sun force, but now with the Farmersville Times, was a visitor in the city Sunday. Frying chickens, hens, fresh eggs and butter are always on hand for sale at my residence. - - - W.O. Brence Miss Genevieve Goff, of Sherman, was the guest of Miss Rachel Montgomery the latter part of last week. W.T. Gattis is again in charge of the fire station. Mr. Gattis left here about a month ago for Oklahoma where he thought he would make his home in the future, but the charms of Whitewright soon brought him back to his old home. He says that he could not find a place in the new state half a s good as our little city. Mr. Bascom Sears went to Durant, Oklahoma, Saturday night and returned Sunday afternoon accompanied by his wife and children, who had been visiting relatives there since Thursday. 55 Years Ago (Items taken from the Whitewright Sun of December 19, 1919) Andrew Pierce has purchased the Will Stockton cottage occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Ed La Roe on Locust Street. H. Apple and family and M.M. Crowell and family, of Chestnut Mound, Tennessee, arrived here recently, and are temporarily domiciled with their kinsman, O.A. Crowell. The two new families are looking for homes and permanent employment here. Fire in an upstairs bedroom threatened the destruction of the home of W.D. Lane on East Grand Avenue early Wednesday morning. On Wednesday afternoon of this week at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee, 3 miles west of Leonard, Miss Necia Beryl Lee was united in marriage to Mr. Kern Glidewell of Wichita Falls. Mr. and Mrs. John Perry of Purcell, Oklahoma, announce the birth of a son on the 14th, in a message to the younger's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Montgomery. LOST: Between my home and town and the west side of Main street, a Century fountain, letters "L.F." scratched on end. - - - Louise Freeman (Adv.) Horace Arnwine and family, who have been living on Bascom Sears' farm east of town, are on their way to Abilene to reside on their farm near that city. I came from California to visit my grandmother, who is ill, and I wanted to let you know I was down here so you could leave my things here. I want a scooter, some nuts and candy, some toy cars, and I would like a tractor but guess that would be asking too much. You don't get stuck in the mud! I'm trying to be a good little boy until Christmas. Larry C. Cooper Wallace Hamilton, who resides south of Whitewright and Miss Wallace Gregory of Tom Bean were united in marriage Tuesday at the Baptist parsonage with Rev. E.P. Wooten officiating. Miss Jo Willa Stuteville, who is attending TWC in Ft. Worth is a t home for the Christmas holidays. M.J. Cox and Miss Betty Tallett of Nevada were united in marriage Wednesday evening at the Baptist parsonage with Rev. E.P. Wooten officiating. Leonard Mullens, minister of the Church of Christ, who has been pastor of the church here for the past 2 years, will move to Cooper January 1, where he has been called as pastor. A 19740 [sic] Chevrolet automobile driven by Mrs. H.D. Lignon turned over on the Whitewright Trenton highway Thursday morning. Mrs. Lignon was alone and escaped injury, but the body of the automobile was damaged. The D.T.Y.A. Club was called to order on December 13 by the president, Ruth McSpedden. Debate on "There is a Santa Claus" with the affirmative upheld by Azilee Smith and John Biggerstaff, and the negative by Edith Harper and Charles Skaggs; Christmas Customs in other lands, John Biggerstaff; Letters to Santa, class; Christmas Story, Winnell Stapleton; reading of letters, Russell Ray Summers; son, Leroy Martin. Captain Dan Hollingsworth of the Oklahoma City Police Department visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Hollingsworth, here this week.
