Holland has bought the old livery barn on Main Street from Mrs. Clara Caudill and is having it torn down and will use the lumber to build a large stock barn just east of Whitewright Lumber Co. yard. Leon Harp, of San Angelo, to Miss Laura Kirkpatrick of this city, November the sixth. This young couple are well known here and their many friends extend congratulations in advance. Miss Bernice Ray, who is teaching music at Detroit, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Ray, over Sunday. The Womack Mills started up this week after being closed down for the past 4 months while it was being remodeled and new machinery installed. Mr. D.W. Smith, the manager, states that they are now able to put out the very best grade of flour, and that the latest and best scientific methods will be used in the manufacturing of their products. Charles Williams of Hodgeville, Kentucky, was in this city last week at the bedside of his mother, who died Friday morning. He has been visiting relatives at Sherman this week before returning home. He is a prominent attorney of Hodgesville. 34 YEARS AGO (Items Taken From the Whitewright Sun of October 24, 1940) H.P. Donitan, local ginner, has let the contract for the construction of a 1500-bale capacity cotton warehouse and work was begun on the building several days ago, plans being for its completion within the next 10 days. Roy Blanton, Route 3 mail carrier, says he is sometimes called upon to perform services outside of his regular job while on his route. For instance, a frantic grandmother hailed him Wednesday morning and asked him to remove a small chain that was lodged in the teeth of her little grandson. With the aid of his trusty piers, Mr. Blanton released the chain, then proceeded on his appointed rounds. Mrs. W.E. Powell, Miss Betty Jo Morrow and Miss Litha Sue Hollingsworth attended the fair at Dallas Sunday. Billie Earl Montgomery, member of the crew of the USS Hopkins which is docked at the Mare Island, California Navy Yard has advised his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Montgomery, that his leave of absence has been cancelled and he will be unable to come home. His ship is to be converted from a destroyer to a mine sweeper at the San Diego Navy Yard. The High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Russ, has been meeting in the gym to practice on music for a program to be given in assembly in about 2 weeks. They plan to be ready to march and play for the last 2 football games of this season. The band is made up of both high school students and Grammar School students. J.R. Pennington has purchased 81 acres of land off the south side of the farm known as the Uncle Johnnie Wilson homestead, 5 miles southeast of Whitewright. The deal was closed Saturday. Caillouquet to serve 3 years in prison. Mrs. R.B. Owens of Sabinal, underwent an appendectomy at St. Vincent's Hospital, Sherman, Tuesday. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Doss of Whitewright. 19 YEARS AGO (Items Taken From the Whitewright Sun of October 20, 1955) While no official announcement has been made concerning the change, it is generally known here that C.B. Bryant, III, president of the First National Bank, is going to Bonham where he will become vice-president of the First National Bank. Sears Anderson of Whitesboro will come to Whitewright where he will be active vice president of the local bank. Miss Ann Hunter, students at ETSTC, Commerce, spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hunter. Wilford House has received his discharge from the armed services and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. House. The fired-up Cooper Bulldogs blasted the Whitewright Tigers right off Bryant Field and torpedoed the Tigers' dream of winning the district crown 3 times running when they downed the Tigers 39-7 Friday night. The Kittens played Wolfe City there last Thursday and came home with a 19-0 victory. The Kittens scored their first touchdown in the 2nd quarter, with Tom Sears bolting over from the 9 yard stripe. Don Wood ran over for the extra point. An M.Y.F. sub-district meeting was held on October 17 at Farmersville. Those attending the meeting were Darlene DeBerry, Don Wood, Dan Hennig, Bill Polk, Bobby DeBerry, Joyce Thornhill, Alice Ayres, Ruth Williams, Louisa Lackey, Mrs. Jack Lackey, and Rev. John W. Polk. Jimmy Smith of Whitewright was selected as Gold Star 4-H boy this year, it was announced by Stanley Oakley, assistant county agent for several years. Oakley went to Dallas Monday where he assumed his duties as assistant farm agent of Dallas County. Jimmy is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Lee H. Smith. The Cub Scouts met on October 13, with Mrs. M.W. McLauchlin and Scotty Phillips, den chief. Last week being fire prevention week, the Cubs were taken on a tour of the fire department and a ride on the truck.
