Newell Turner and Miss Mollie Samples were married Friday. Howard Brodhead, manager of the Whitewright Electric Co. has closed a contract with Texas Power & Light Co. to furnish electric current for the local system. William Partridge, 53, died at his home east of town Friday morning. The Gordon Clothing Co. is enlarging its store by moving the partition further back. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Doss on October 10. Lloyd Moore traded for the residence on West Maple street occupied by Jim Hollingsworth and family. Miss Sallie Jo Gowdy and Holmes Connelly were married Tuesday. 22 Years Ago (From The Sun, October 13, 1927) Miss Edna Rebecca Womack and Dr. M.L. Patton were married last Thursday. The merchants have announced that they will give away $30 in cash every Saturday afternoon. Rev. J.L. Truett has bought the large brick building occupied by Manning, Clark & Meador. The total enrollment in the Whitewright schools is now 385. H.C. Willis died suddenly at his home here Tuesday night. Members of the Central Christian Church "pounded" their pastor, Rev. J.T. Purvis, last Saturday night. Elizabeth Hedgepeth underwent an appendicitis operation Sunday. Mrs. J.L. Bow spent Thursday and Friday in Sherman, guest of her daughter, Miss Martha, a student at Austin College. Mrs. M.E. Morrow, who purchased the Aunt Jennie Jones residence on East Grand avenue several months ago, has moved into the residence. A daughter was born Oct. 7 to Mr. and Mrs. Russell of Pilot Grove. 15 Years Ago (From The Sun, October 11, 1934) Brick work on the new Baptist Church is nearing completion. 1995 bales of cotton had been ginned here up to Thursday morning. Julian Montgomery has been appointed State WPA engineer. Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Gosnell gave a dinner Sunday honoring Mrs. Gosnell's father, J.P. Autray, on his 77th birthday. A.M. Bryant has purchased an interest in the insurance agency operated by Paul Stephens. Jack Lackey has accepted employment with the Texas-Louisiana Power Co. construction crew. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Burris last Sunday. Mrs. W.T. Holmes took Albert Lea Jackson, Jack Meador and Walter Tom Holmes to Denison last Saturday to take the Boy Scout life saving test. J.W. James and Miss Lucille Ball were married Friday.
