17 YEARS AGO IN WHITEWRIGHT

The Commercial Club is planning to celebrate Prosperity Week June 12-17.
Miss Ruth Cox is visiting Miss Ruth Butler at Greenville.
Robert Little, Frank Thomas, Gomer Graves, Jim Montgomery and Roscoe Cook were social visitors in Van Alstyne Sunday.
Grand Master D.S. McMillin went to Dallas today to preside at an important Masonic function.
Postmaster H.L. Webster has acquired the Payne Cottage property, having traded his home in east Whitewright to Will Fleming for the property.
Miss Margorie Moore went to Big Sandy last week to be present at the wedding of her uncle, Thurman Hamilton, to Miss Cress of that city.
F.M. and J.M. Simmons are taking a vacation from their barber shop in which they have been confined closely for several years.
Miss Frances Wilson gave a party at her home Monday evening, honoring ger guest, Miss Mary Kincaid of Bonham.
G.L. Baugher has the contract for constructing a 130x180 foot warehouse for Beatrice Milling Company.
J.H. Waggoner is attending the convention of the Texas Press Association at El Paso this week.
F.K. Russell, director of the Whitewright band, was out joyriding with Horace Gordon on the latter's delivery wagon one day last  week when the horse they were driving turned the wagon over.  Mr. Russell sustained painful injuries, necessitating postponement of the band rehearsal Friday night.
On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Joe Hamilton received at her home on West Mapel street, honoring her sister, Mrs. Thurman Hamilton.
J.W. McMurry has put in a stock of groceries at Canaan and will conduct business there during the summer, with Claude Thompson as salesman.
Gallaher's drug store is conducting an automobile popularity contest with 18 candidates represented in the voting.
College students at home for the vacation period include Gertrude Holland, Nell Reubell, Lila Reubell, Lewis Holland, Marvin Bryant, Earl Wallace, Jim Sears and Morrell Sears.

Whitewright's insurance key rate has been reduced from 75 cents to 37 cents during the last five years.
