Thursday, March 16, 1933 pg. 5 17 Years Ago in Whitewright (From The Sun, March 17, 1916 ) W.M. Cox announces his candidacy for mayor of Whitewright. The First National Bank is installing a Burroughs bookkeeping machine. Whitewright has set April 8th as candidates' day, farmers' day and trades day. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Alexander, a boy, last Monday. Mrs. R.K. Smith has sold the Tobe White farm north of town to T.H. Sears. Miss Ethel Gordon is visiting relatives in the Desert community this week. J.A. Pritchett has bought the music house on the college campus and is moving it to his lots where he will convert it into a rent cottage. W.L. Mangrum has bought from R.L. Holcomb the residence west of the school building. In the trade Mr. Holcomb became owner of the Mangrum residence in east Whitewright. 12 Years Ago (From The Sun, March 18, 1921) The city council has ordered an election to be held on April 4 to determine whether or not Whitewright shall adopt the commission form of government. The order is signed by F.M. Echols, mayor, and S.H. Montgomery, city secretary. The petition was signed by Will L. Newsome, J.C. Robinson, Claude R. Truett and 36 other persons. Mr. F.A. Benton and Miss Cordelia Yeager were married Sunday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Cook. The district interscholastic league meet was held in Whitewright last Saturday, the Whitewright schools winning the meet with 133 points. Trenton was second with 40 points, and Bells third with 8-1/2 points. H.L.
