Thursday, March 3, 1932 pg.3 17 Years Ago in Whitewright (From The Sun, March 5, 1915) C.B. Bryant, W.P. Vaughn, T.H. Sears, J.W. Davidson and T.E. Barbee were in Denison last Friday to confer with the good roads committee of the Denison chamber of commerce. The Parent-Teacher Association offers cash prizes to boys who will assemble the largest piles of trash on vacant lots in the city. This is a part of the association's drive for a cleaner town. Fire at the home of J.M. McMillin did considerable damage to household goods Saturday night. W.A. Hamilton announces his candidacy for reelection as night watchman. The home of Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Horton, corner of Gowdy and Walnut streets, was destroyed by fire last Thursday night. Mrs. J.C. Parsons and Miss Enna Montgomery were among the Whitewright women who attended the spring style show at Dallas this week. Ott Lackey and family moved this week to their new home on South Bond street which they recently purchased. W.L. Mangrum was in Dallas Wednesday to see the style show and attend to business matters in connection with his theatre here. Elizabeth May, niece of Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Morehead, celebrated her 9th birthday Wednesday afternoon of last week with a party to which 22 of her friends were invited. The W.P. Cameron bankrupt stock of men's furnishings will be sold at auction Friday afternoon. A.H. Davis has closed the restaurant and confectionery of Davis Bros. because of lack of patronage. Bob Sears, the local automobile dealer, is considering the advisability of putting in a stock of hydroplanes. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Truett's baby daughter has about recovered from a siege of pneumonia. Mrs. W.H. King was in Sherman last Friday to attend the birthday celebration of Rev. J.M. Binkley, 82-year-old Methodist minister. The city council in regular monthly meeting Monday night authorized a rate of 25c per 1000 gallons to persons using more than 100,000 gallons of water per month. T.H. Lively bought a 2-page ad to tell about a sale of dry goods. James H. Reeves of Whitewright won first prize in the annual oratorical contest at the University of Texas last week. 12 Years Ago (From The Sun, March 5, 1920) Rev. W.J. Epting, for 9 years pastor of the Baptist Church, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the First Baptist Church of Madill, Oklahoma. Mrs. H .T. Arterberry entertained last Wednesday with a leap year party honoring Miss Mamie Arterberry. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Dossey has been suffering of bronchial pneumonia for several days. Mrs. Horace Thompson went to Arlington Tuesday to visit her son, Clyde, who is attending the Government vocational school. The 14-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Cato of the Pilot Grove community died suddenly Monday. She had been troubled with her throat, but only a few minutes before she died was playing about the house. Sam McMillin has accepted a position with L. LaRoe & Co. Looney Robbins, who has been with the company here for several years, has gone to Leonard to take charge of the new LaRoe yard there. May or F.M.
