Hornbuckle House

Dr. Hornbuckle practiced his profession in Whitewright at various times.  He was living in Whitewright in 1911 when the June 12, 1911 fire struck the business district of Whitewright.  He was credited with taking photographs of the remains of the business district after the fire was extinguished.  (The Whitewright Sun, Thursday, June 22, 1961, p.g2)

The house was owned by Mr. and Mrs. P. McKenna before they moved to Houston; Dr. G.J. Hornbuckle, veterinarian, moved to Whitewright from Ft. Worth in March of 1917 to engage in his practice; he purchased the residence on S. Bond St. in January of 1918.  Dr. Hampton's office was located at Hampton & Sears Barn in Whitewright.  (The Whitewright Sun, Friday, July 13, 1917, pg. 10)

The home of Dr. G.J. Hornbuckle was damaged by fire on the morning of December 4, 1921 with damages amounting to several hundreds of dollars. ("12 Years Ago, (From The Sun, December 8, 1921" The Whitewright Sun, Thursday, December 7, 1933)

In 1914 Ott Lackey owned the house.  In December 1925 the family of Dr. Hornbuckle and Hornbuckle's mother, after several years residence in Whitewright moved to Dallas where he was employed.

In 1973 the house was acquired by Mike and Louisa L. Martin, who were still residing there in 2002.
