Butler-Sears House

Corner of Cedar & Houston streets

The house was built by Prof. F.E. Butler, founder of Grayson County College, in the 1890s.  The exterior of the house was built of  cypress and it took 55 gallons of paint to cover the exterior.  There was an extra wide hall in the house.
Prof. Butler died in Dallas January 1937; he was born in 1853 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana.  Mr. Butler was a graduate of Centenary College and Vanderbilt University and an ordained Methodist minister.  He moved to Honey Grove, Fannin Co. in 1886 and to Whitewright in 1888.  He was President of Alexander Collegiate Institute in Jacksonville 1909 - 1912.

The house was owned by Luther Sears in 1911, by A. Henniger in 1941, and David Reeves in 1965
