NEW GARMENT PLANT TO OPEN HERE JANUARY 1
A new garment factory is due to being operations in Whitwright about January 1, according to Mrs. Gladys Hefner of Whitesboro, owner of the new business.  Remodeling of the Ray building on the south side of Main street is now under way, and this building will house the new factory.

The Chamber of Commerce has been working on this deal for several months, and President Cling Hennig and Secretary Edwin Badgett of that organization expressed gratification that the new plant is to become a reality.

Mrs. Hefner, a native of the Whitewright community, has been a partner in a similar plant at Whitesboro.  She first planned to buy out her partners and move the business to Whitewright, but when the partners declined to sell their interest to her, the partnership was then dissolved, Mrs. Hefner taking her share of the equipment for removal to Whitewright.  She will add additional machines, and expects to have about 20 machines in operation when the plant opens.

Mrs. Hefner said that applications for jobs in the new plant will be accepted after December 16.  She plans to move to Whitewright by that date, after which she will have application blanks available.

PARKLAND REOPENS
Whitewright's other garment factory, Parkland Sportswear, resumed operations this week after a seasonal shutdown lasting several weeks.
