October 2, 1897 Sherman News Notes Sherman, Texas, Oct. 1 - The county judge today received a request to come to Whitewright and hold an inquiry into the sanity of a well-known lady, who is reported mentally unbalanced. Judge Wood has requested the authorities to investigate. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dallas Morning News October 13, 1897 ADJUDGED INSANE Sherman, Tex., Oct. 12 - Mrs. William Craig, the wife of a faithful and attentive husband and the mother of four children, the oldest 8 years of age, was adjudged insane at Whitewright, Grayson county, this afternoon on a hearing before Judge Wood, who went down from Sherman. She is laboring under peculiar hallucinations. One of them is that she thinks a river is running under her bed and that she is in a boat. At the table she will often not eat unless she is fed like an infant, and at other times she eats as if ravenously hungry and has to be stopped. About three years ago she was adjudged insane in Fannin county, but was never taken to the asylum. She apparently recovered and seemed doing very well until a few weeks since she began to grow worse steadily. An application has been made for her immediate transfer to the Terrell asylum.
