The Whitewright Sun
Thursday, September 6, 1951 pg. 1 CITY TO ENFORCE LAW AGAINST USE OF GUNS IN TOWN Mayor Russell Summers has asked The Sun to remind children and their parents that the new state law prohibiting the shooting of airguns in any incorporated town is now in effect. The law also applies to .22 calibre rifles and all other types of firearms. Mr. Summers said that one child was shot in the shoulder by another child this week, the airgun pellet having to be dug out of the flesh. He said he warned the boy doing the shooting that the next time he was found shooting his gun in town, he would be turned over to county juvenile authorities for punishment. This applies to all other children as well, Mr. Summers said. The new state law resulted from the number of persons who have been shot with airguns over the state in recent years, many of them losing their eyesight.
