Whitewright and Bellplain
April 4, 1878 - It is learned from C.H. Suydam who returned from Whitewright and Bellplain yesterday that building is progressing nicely in both places. At Bellplain there are now four general stores, three saloons and two drug stores, one owned by Dr. Bailey, late of Savoy, and the other by Dr. Faut, alte of this city.  They also have a blacksmith shop, and the building of a hotel has commenced.
At Whitewright Ed Euper of this city has a restaurant, and Mr. Alva Shaw a grocery store.  Shaw is now having an addition built and will soon open a boarding house in addition to his store.  McDowell, our ex-marshall, is the boss carpenter in charge of the building  Several other buildings are being erected, among them a storeroom for Batsell & Reeves of Kentuckytown.  C.H. Suydam has received the contract for the building of a large store for Scullin, Perry & Co., of this city; also a drug store for Dr. Jones.  A blacksmith shop is in full blast and a large hotel is to be built in the near future.  Messrs. Waples, Lingo and Company, of our city, have a lumber yard there in charge of D. Acre, also of this city.
Note: Dr. Jones was killed in Caddo, I.T. before opening his drug store in Whitewright.

WHITEWRIGHT
An Excursion Over the Denison and South Eastern
Sale of the First Lots in the Prospective City.

Fifty or more persons went over to Whitewright from this city Wednesday, to attend the sale of lots at the new town of Whitewright,
at the terminus of the road.
The sale commenced at about 11 o'clock.  Lot No. 1, on Grand Avenue, was bought by Scullin & Perry at $200, and others were disposed of in the following order:

There were a good many persons present at the sale from Kentuckytown and the s urro unding country, a nd competition was quite brisk.
Whitewright is beautifully located, and as it is in the midst of a rich agricultural country, we see no reason why it should not become a florishing town.
