Mr. Schied was born September 27, 1868 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of John and Joanna Scheid.  The Scheid family came to Texas when Martin was only eight years old.  They settled northeast of Whitesboro when the town was about 2-1/2 years old; their home was across the road from the Dallas Down farm.
Martin married Viola Watson and they had five children. 
Martin was Whitesboro's Street Commissioner for fifteen years; in his latter years he owned a furniture store on the north side of Main Street.
Martin died November 28, 1935; he is buried in Oak Wood Cemetery at Whitesboro.
