Whitesboro News-Record Friday, January 29, 1932 pg. 1 GAINESVILLE ROAD WILL OPEN SOON After eight more days of work, that part of Highway Five from Whitesboro to Gainesville will be opened to the public. This work was started last year and has required considerable time and effort. In the construction of the new road, all curves have been eliminated, as in the old road to Gainesville there are over fifty turns and corners. The road is built on a straight line and will cut the distance down to about twelve miles. The Gainesville Chamber of Commerce with Egbert Thompson as its secretary, is doing great work for Cooke county. A committee from Gainesville was in Austin last week and secured state aid whereby they will carry Highway Five on through two more counties. Gainesville has a live bunch of business people and they believe in doing things. The next thing that we are eager to see is for Gainesville to get the road from Whitesboro to Gainesville paved.
