D. R. Huffaker was the owner of the Whitesboro Record, Gunter Star and Collinsville Times.  Sometime after the war years, he absorbed the Collinsville Times into the Whitesboro News-Record.
He died in a car wreck returning from Austin, Texas. He was running for the United States Senate.  After his death, his wife ran the newspaper, which was uncommon in the 1930s.  The Whitesboro News-Record was founded by a woman in Caddo, Oklahoma in 1877.
