J.P. HAYTER
Druggist and Manufacturing Pharmacist

J.P. Hayter is another prominent business man of Decatur who is a native Texan, having been born in 1862 in Grayson County, this state, where he grew up.  He has been in the drug business for 16 years and is very successfull in business.
He began the business at Gordonville and later moved to Whitesboro, coming to Decatur in 1893.  He was married in 1885 to Miss Jennie Thomason of Sunset.  Of the 7 children that have been born to them, 6 are living.
Mr. Hayter does a varied and extensive business.  His drug stock is large and complete, always supplied with everything belonging to a first class drug business.  His large building on the west side of the square, which he owns himself, has a compartment fitted up for the manufacture of soda pop, which he manufactures extensively and ships to all parts of the country for many miles around.  His cold drinks stand is justly popular and well patronized.  He handles the only line of wall paper in town, his stock being kept well filled with patterns of choice design and fine quality.  He is the proprietor of the valuable medicine, Findley's Eye Salve, of which he manufactures and sells large quantities.  This branch of his business is a source of great profit to him.  He is half owner of the cotton gin at Anneville.
In public matters he is active, always interested in every movement for the advancement of his city and county.  He is a member of the city council, being alderman from Ward No. 2, and occupies the position of mayor pro tem and chairman of the finance committee.  He is an active member of the M.E. church and is a good worker in the church and Sunday School.  You have not missed it far when you set J.P. Hayter down as an all around model citizen and business man.
