THE FIRST TOWN CHARTER The
reason for celebrating the Whitesboro Centennial in 1973 is that the
town received its first charter in 1873. At that time there were
approximately 500 inhabitants and several businesses. Following
are the names, occupations, and years of prominence of a few important
merchants and farmers of the '60's and '70's.
James McGillicuddy Grocer 1872 J.M. Brooks Farmer 1870 Frances Reast Farmer, Land Owner 1869 W. H. Moss Grocer 1875 F. G. Jamison Dry Goods Store 1876 Jamison's store, called Jamison Corners, was located where White's Auto stands today.
The corporation limits of the town included one square mile of land with the junction of Main and Union Streets as the approximate center. This incorporation, a giant step in the growth of Whitesboro into the city that it is in 1973, was the work of many courageous, determined men. The names of several of these men have already been mentioned; the people listed below were also prominent in the settling and building of our city. Miss Brink and her brother William S.
