WHITESBORO
Few towns in the state are more pleasantly located than our neighboring city, Whitesboro, and at this season of the year it is unusually attractive.  It sits like a crown on an eminence overlooking thousands of acres under cultivation, and is fanned by cool south breezes every day in the year.  There is nothing fast about Whitesboro, but her population is made up of good substantial citizens, the trades and professions are well represented and her merchants do a safe and profitable business.  The new bank established only about a year ago, of which Frank Adams, formerly of this city, is cashier, has proved successful far beyond the expectations of its proprietors.  The citizens support with liberality one of the best interior weekly newspapers in the state, the News, and the school advantages are unsurpassed by any other town of its size in Texas.  Adam Hornback, another old Denisonian, dispenses refreshments at Le Bin Ton, and is one of the most liberal and enterprising citizens of the burough.  The Gazetteer is glad to know that he has made money.  The railroad hotel is now under the management of William Clark and L.C. Raff, both gentlemen experienced in the restaurant business in this city and proprietors at different times of the Delmonico.  This hotel has been very much since they took charge of it, and notwithstanding travel is light at this season of the year they report business as good and the future bright.
The crops around Whitesboro give promise of being unusually large this year.  The corn crop will be immense; early wheat is turning out a large yield, but that which was sown late was nearly an entire failure. The cotton stand is very promising, the worms having not done any damage worth mentioning.  Unless some unforseen misfortune overtakes the farmers Whitesboro will enjoy a modest but healthy boom next fall when the crops are marketed.
The young men are organizing a base ball nine and say they are coming to Denison on the Fourth and give our boys a tussle.  They have experienced playeres.  Our citizens may look out for a large attendance from Whitesboro and also from Pottsboro on the national holiday.
