Younger Scott McKinney Home Younger Scott McKinney, son of Collin McKinney, built this house for his wife, Sarah (Janes) and their 6 children in 1856 on land obtained through his surveying profession. As a youth living with his family near Texarkana on the Red River, McKinney twice tried to join the Texas forces in the struggle against Mexico, but was turned down by Rusk and Houston under the advice that his help was needed at home. McKinney later served as Grayson County surveyor in 1852-1853, in addition to being a farmer & ordained Methodist Episcopal Minister.
