June 3, 1937 pg. 1 A DONKEY BASEBALL GAME TO BE STAGED HERE TUESDAY NIGHT All Players Are To Play on Donkeys According to an announcement made by Buck Clayton and Robert Fielder, a donkey baseball game will be presented here Tuesday night June 8, which takes place of the womnaless beauty contest which would have been presented. Friday night, June 4. Buck Clayton drew up the contract, Tuesday of this week, with W.A. Mangrum, of Dallas, by which Mangrum is to furnish 16 donkeys and 16 300-watt lamps for lighting the field. The two teams are to be composed of people in and around Van Alstyne. All of the fielders ride donkeys except the pitcher and catcher, and must be on the donkey when tagging a runner before the runner is o ut. When the batter hits the ball he has to mount a donkey and ride around the bases, if the mule is not to stubborn. Those who have never seen a donkey baseball game have missed the greatest thrill in their lives. The proposed admission price will be 10c and 25c.
