June 16, 1938 Four Men Arrested For Burglary at Gunter Four Gunter men were arrested Sunday by the sheriff's department in connection with two weekend burglaries, and charges were filed against them Monday morning. The burglaries were that of the Templin Thompson cafe between Dorchester and Gunter Friday night, in which 20 cases of bear were taken; and the burglary Saturday night of a chicken house of J.B. Dickey, farmer living near Gunter. Mr. Dickey told Sheriff David that 75 fryers were taken. Before a local justice of the peace, charges of burglary were filed Monday against Troy Tillett, J.W. McCreary and Arthur Cravens and of chicken theft against Claude Cravens. McCreary was also charge with drunkenness. Tillett, McCreary and Claude Cravens were arrested Sunday morning under a tree in Tuck Taylor's pasture, just east of the Gunter lake. Arthur Cravens was arrested later in Gunter. Most of the beer was recovered but most of the chickens were missing. The men range from 33 to 42 years old. Tillett is under indictment in the fifteenth district court, charged with the burglary last August 29 of the H.L. Ball grocery at Gunter, in which $4.10 was taken from the cash register.
