January 5, 1900 Sherman Siftings GASOLINE CAUGHT FIRE Sherman, Tex., Jan. 4 - At Van Alstyne, Grayson County, today a tin barrel of gasoline which was being rolled into a business house suddenly became enveloped in flames. It was with the greatest difficulty that the local fire department succeeded in suppressing the blaze that looked like it would be communicated to the store building. The only explanation of the affair is that the barrel must have been rolled over a match, which communicated a blaze to gasoline escaping from a small leak.
