Ardmore, I.T., Aug 9. – Two weeks ago there was stolen from the rack at Tioga, Texas, a valuable bay mare, saddle and bridle, the property of S.P. Hart of that
place. A description of the horse was sent to the various officers throughout
the country, and a reward of $50 offered by Sheriff McAffee of Sherman for the return of the horse or
capture of the thief.
Yesterday Deputy United States Marshal George M. Stewart
noticed a horse near Thackerville, answering the description of the stolen
animal and found that the owner, Bob Richardson,
had lately traded a horse for it with a stranger. It proved to be the horse
that was stolen, and late last night the officers captured Richard Williams,
the supposed thief, who had two fine horses in his possession, which have since
been claimed by the owners. Williams is now in Ardmore jail, and will be given a hearing the
coming week.
