 Fort Worth Gazette December 26, 1894 Tioga, Texas, Dec. 25 - Last night while Deputy Sheriff Woolard was taking a man home who was slightly under the influence of whisky he was attacked by a squad of four men, who by force took the man away from him, and took the deputy, bound him and tied him to a tree and left him there. He was soon released by friends and the offending four were duly arrested and are now under bond. Deputy Sheriff John Steele has charge of the case and will work it to the end. One of the four men has turned state's evidence. Fort Worth Gazette December 26, 1894 Tioga, Texas, Dec 27 - The trial of the men who captured the deputy sheriff on the night before Christmas is set for the 3d of January.
