G.M. Rains was postmaster of the Tioga postoffice in 1890. In 1904, two rural routes for mail delivery were established. On January 1, Claude Shumate started delivery on Route 1, north and west of Tioga. Emmett Spears started Route 2, south and east of Tioga, on July 1, 1904. Both served for thirty years.
