OLDEST RESIDENT OF NORTH TEXAS PROBABLY, STILL SPINSTER AT 105
Special to the Democrat

TIOGA - The month of March brings not only its winds to "Aunt Matty Harvey" but also her one hundred and fifth birthday.  Her memory of records and dates is practically gone, but it is said by relatives that she was born March 2, and it has been established that the year was 1825.  John Quincy Adams became president of the United States that year. Since then there have been twenty presidents.

The American scene has shifted in her liftime from hoop skirts and stage coaches to short skirts and planes.  When Miss Harvey saw her first plane a few years ago, her only comment was mild: "My, my, what what will they do next?"

Her home has been in Tioga for the past 40 years or more, and she is cared for by a niece, Mrs. A. H. Leftwich. Since her hip was broken three years ago she has been almost bed-fast, but until that time she was active.  Her hearing has not been good for some time and her sight, unusually acdurate past the 100 mark, has almost completely failed.
Daylight and dark have become the same to her, and she sleeps the greater part of the time.

In her youth, "Aunt Matt" was know as a deft spinner, weaver and seamstress, and a good cook, but she has stoutly maintained that she would not marry "no man she ever seed."

She did not like the radio when she was able to listen to it a year or so ago, and thought that modern styles were distressing.  She has not seen the styles, however, for two years or more, and her friends wonder what her reaction to knee-length skirts would be. She is unaware that prohibition is in effect and it is said that she would not approve it either.

"Aunt Matt" has 13 living nephews and nieces and scores of great nieces and nephews running into four and five generations.
She was one of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Danile Harvey near Columbia, Ky. all of whom lived to a ripe old age.  She was educated in the schools of Kentucky, and has been a member of the Methodist church many years.
