The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, August 13, 1905 pg. 2 A WONDERFUL APPLE TREE AT TIOGA The following is from the Dallas News: The is growing in L.F. Brown's orchard at Tioga one of the most wonderful apple trees known in the state, and possibly in the United States, for fruitage and excellency of quality, both of color, flavor and soundness. The fruit, which begins to ripen about June 15 and continues to bear ripe fruit until September, is medium or possibly a little above medium in size, a beautiful dark red color and irregular in shape, some being long and having the shape of the lady finger, others round and more like the Winesap, yet none are faulty and knotty. The meat is clear white and rich in juice, brittle and just acid enough to make it one of the desirable apples for both cooking and eating fresh from the tree. This tree has been fruiting for 4 years, and each year the crop is full and never fails to develop perfection, both in color and size. Another excellence in quality of variety is that, while it is surrounded by other trees and its limbs touch the ground on all sides, making a dense shade, the fruit never fails to put on that beautiful dark-red coloring, and there is no rotting or specking of the apples before ripening. This is a seedling tree, coming up in Mr. Brown's orchard where it now stands, it never having been transplanted. Since this apple has been brought to the notice of a few nursery men they have been to see it and say it is the most wonderful apple in existence.
