The area called Shiloh grew up
around the house of William T. Lankford. It was a community, though not incorporated, located
3-5 miles east of Denison, along the Red River. There was a Shiloh
School (where people voted) and a church. The Lankford/Jones cemetery
was located there. For a long time the newspapers referred to this area
as “Dr. [J.L.] Jones’ neighborhood.”
The community that grew up around the Lankford home was known as "Shiloh." It had a one-room country store, a school and a cemetery. The Lankford cemetery was located about 500 yards from the home that William and Mary Lankford built. Eventually Denison's East Main Street road reached the area. (Bryant, Mavis Anne.
