"REMEMBER THE BOYS OF '76"
One of the Old Timers Who Is Still Serving the Public

In the year 1877, Jim Snyder, then a lad with the usual characteristics and dreams of young America, landed in Grayson county with his mother and father, the family locating near Tom Bean, and Jim, as thousands or other business men have done, grew to manhood on the farm, making a "hand" at everything known to farm life and at which a boy can be made useful - which is everything.
Having grown to manhood, Mr. Snyder left the farm and came to Sherman in 1889 and began working for Roberts, Hardwicke and Taylor in the hardware business.  When the firm changed to Roberts, Sanford and Taylor, Mr. Snyder was retained by that firm and later when Hardwicke and Etter succeeded to the business this firm also found use for Mr. Snyder, and during these years he acquired an acquaintance and friendship most valuable both to his employes and himself, and "Jim Snyder's smile" proved to be a great asset to him as well as a pleasure to his friends.
In 1905 Mr. Snyder left the hardware business and engaged in the coal and wood business for himself, operating a yard on East Jones street, where he served the public in this capacity till 1914, meeting with much success and largely increasing his already extensive acquaintance.
In 1914 he became manager of the Sherman Feed and Fuel Company and it was there he adopted as his business slogan "The Boys of '76."  Seventy-six being his telephone numbers, and even though he handled feed as well as fuel, he made coal his speciality, and it has in late years, during the shortage and the high price of coal, become a general saying throughout this city and county, "You can always get Coal from Jim Snyder," with the result Mr. Snyder has built up perhaps the largest Coal business of any man in Grayson county.
Mr. Snyder recently sold his interest in the Sherman Feed and Fuel Company and accepted the management of the Sherman Coal Company, a concern whose place of business is the Andrews Warehouse, 515 East Houston street.
Mr. Snyder wishes to announce to his friends and to the public that he is now prepared to serve them in his new connection quite as satisfactorily as ever before.  He says that in spite of the shortage of freight cars and mine troubles and investigators, he has always been able to get the necessary coal to supply all demands made on him, and that his connections are such that he has no fears as to the future.
As an evidence of the service he has been able to render the past year, he has sold eight cars of coal during the past summer, and was able to meet every demand made on him by the threshermen during the threshing season - and that all during the "coal famine" he has always had plenty of coal, and he has no doubt the Sherman Coal Company will be able to meet all coal demands both for business and home use that may be made on them during the coming fall and winter, however large that demand may be.
