SHERMAN AND FREE DELIVERY
The free mail delivery in cities having a population of 10,000 and the requisite amount of postal revenue of course entitles this city to all the many advantages which will accrue from this, but we as a city, were woe fully slow about placing signs on the street corners, and now many of us as citizens, are pretty slow about putting numbers on the houses.  This must be done before the delivery is put into operation.  Sherman cannot afford to act in this dilly dallying manner any longer, and it is absolutely necessary that the houses be numbered.  As foolish kicking, that against numbering the houses, seems totally uncalled for.  A man has a right to number his own house if he wants to, but he certainly ought to be made to do so, by all means, and let this matter be settled once for all.  If the city has no ordinance one ought to be made.  If that can be done the the law of common good will toward Sherman should actnate the people to do this, and in case that is lacking it would be a good idea for Mrs. McPherson, our worthy postmistress, to notify the department that Sherman needs more time.  Of course a man cannot be compelled to purchase numbers from any particular party or parties, but he certainly can afford to get the number of his house and put it up.  It doesn't necessarily have to be a wooden or metal number, but can be painted on as well, and if a man is enough of an artist, he can borrow a marking brush and pot and put it up himself.  The many advantages that this system will give Sherman will more than compensate the people for any and all trouble they may have in putting up the requisite numbers.  There is no use for futher delay and the council must, in defense of the interests of this city, take some action next Monday night.  We don't want to lose such a thing as the free mail delivery.
