"Sherman Siftings" Dallas Morning News
February 5, 1886 Special to The News Sherman, February 4 - The people of North Maxey street this morning were startled by hearing loud cries issuing from a residence on the thoroughfare. Water buckets and anything to carry water in were gathered up instantly and a general rush made for the scene of the supposed fire. Imagine their disgust when arriving to find that the hubbub had been occasioned by a cat remaining too long in the bake oven of a cook stove. Baked cats may suit the palates of some sections, but that article was unceremoniously dumped into the street this morning.
