J.B. Shaw & Sons
Dry Goods

"41 Years in Business"
The business of J.B. Shaw & Sons, Dry Goods, located on the east side of the public square in Sherman, dates back to 1876, when J.B. Shaw came to Sherman from Jefferson, Texas, and entered the dry goods store of E.F. Pittman as a salesman, notice of his coming to the city appearing in the columns of the Courier of that date, which notice is reproduced in this issue.
In 1884 Mr. Shaw engaged in business for himself, the firm name at first being Shaw, Johnson and Durham, and in 1890 the name was changed to J.B. Shaw and Sons.  Mr. Shaw and his two sons, Marion and Allen, having become the sole owners.
The foundation for honesty and fair dealing which Mr. Shaw laid when he first came to the county 41 years ago has been his principal asset all through these years, and the 31 years during which he and his sons have been in business has been one of continued growth, both in volume of business and friendship of the people.
Many years ago it became a common saying amongst the people of this county, "You can do better at Shaw's," and Mr. Shaw and his sons greatly appreciate this unconscious though forceful compliment, and they have at all time and yet strive to make this saying absolutely true in every particular and in every detail.
The two sons, Marion and Allen, were raised in Sherman and grew up in their present business.  They, as well as their father, have a host of personal friends, both in the city and country, and in addition to giving their own business their time and thought, they always find time to do their part for the good of the city and county.
Their business at this time is one of the nicest dry goods stores in North Texas, carrying a large line of dry goods, clothing and shoes, including everything necessary to the family needs in the dry goods and clothing line, and they extend an invitation to the "old settlers" and public to make their store headquarters during the Fortieth Annual Reunion.
