Hunt, "Car Salesman Entombed in Ice," Denison Herald, April 3, 1992.
Gary Dunlap, manager of the Red River dealership in Sherman, was entombed inside a 5,000 lb block of ice at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 2 and remained there until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4 - a total of 50 hours. Dunlap had about 6" clearance above his head and 2" on either side of his body as he lay on an insulated mattress. He arrived for his entombment in a white limousine, accompanied by his hynotist. He removed his sweat suit and stocking cap, leaving him dressed in a t-shirt and cap. The block of ice was in the back of a truck which was parked in the front of the car agency. Viewers could see Mr. Dunlap through a peep hole, and vice versa; he could also hear what people were saying when the generators were not running. Through hypnosis his body functions were slowed down to enable him to withstand the cold; he also did not eat anything nor drink any fluids while encased in the ice. By taking deep breaths his body became accustomed to the cold so that he wasn't all that uncomfortable, although his skin was cold to the touch. Upon his removal from the block of ice, he planned to take a bath and eat pizza.
