Dallas Morning News 28 December 1887 A MOONLIGHT RACE The Riders Collide, sustaining broken limbs, and probable loss of an eye- Sherman, Tex., Dec. 27 - There was a dance in the country last night, at which a number of young folks were present. All went along without anything to mar the occasion until the guests were dispersing, Tom Bryant and Joe Embree proposed a race by moonlight, and it was to their sorrow. After running a little distance, they collided. Bryant's right arm was broken in two places and recieved severe bruises and hurts about the body. Joe Embree's left ankle was broken, one of his bones shattered, and he received a deep gash cut under his left eye, completely displacing the eye from his socket. A physician was summoned and assistance of a medical nature rendered. At last accounts both of the young men were resting easily as could be expected.
