Sherman Democrat August 1939 Only one change in location has been made by A.J. Lawrence, pioneer Sherman grocer, since he established his grocery store in 1906. That was to move in 1926 from the corner of Mulberry and Walnut to his present location at 318 North Walnut. Mr. Lawrence was born January 29, 1881, in Rome, Georgia, and came to Sherman when he was seven years old. He obtained his first grocery experience working for his brother in Durant, Oklahoma store, and then launched out on his own at the age of 25 by buying out the Dean grocery on Mulberry and Walnut corner. Mr. Lawrence is President of the Sherman Retail Grocers Association, and has been active in the Chamber of Commerce and retail merchants association.
