The Sherman Courier Wednesday, August 15, 1917 Fiftieth Anniversary Edition pg. 2 J.R. COLE, A POPULAR SHERMAN GROCER The Courier takes pleasure in calling attention to the advertisement in this morning's issue of one of Sherman's most worthy and justly popular merchants, J.R. Cole. Mr. Cole has in the past two years, from a small beginning, become one of Sherman's most solid merchants. He commenced business on a small scale just before the fire disaster in 1875, and had all he possessed swept away then. He was just beginning to get "his head above water" when that terrible conflagration swept over our city. But having a courage that never allows despair, Mr. Cole went to work, and slowly, but surely, he has built a solid foundation and a lucrative business. - - - From The Daily Courier of Friday, January 8, 1879 Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
