CARPENTER & BELDEN
Fire Insurance and Real Estate
Established 1878
Ora J. Belden, Proprietor

It was in 1878 that Dr. J.C. Carpenter established the first fire insurance business in Sherman which has for the past 24 years been conducted under the name Carpenter & Belden.
In 1884 Ora Belden, then a mere boy recently from Indiana where he was born, came into the business as office and errand boy, and nine years later, or in 1893, he was admitted as a partner in the business.
In 1905 Mr. Belden bought the Carpenter interest in the business, continuing the business under the old firm name, and while since that time he has been the sole owner of the business, his brother, Hugh Belden, has been associated with him as assistant.
In addition to his fire insurance business, Mr. Belden has since 1905, also been doing a general real estate business, and some of the most important real estate deals in the city in late years have been negotiated through him, among those of more recent date being the lands of the Phoenix Elevators, also the lands for the new City Park on West Houston street.
Mr. Belden's long experience in the fire insurance has given him not only a large local patronage, but he is recognized among the fire insurance men of the State as a man whose judgment on losses and values is just to both sides, and he is frequently called to adjust losses in other towns, and his treatment and method of handling losses in Sherman has at all times been prompt and satisfactory both to those sustaining the lost and to the companies.
Mr. Belden represents a number of the largest, strongest and most liberal fire insurance companies in America, and all business placed with his agency receives careful and proper attention.
