Friday, September 4, 1874 pg. 2 SHERMAN NEWS From the Special Correspondent September 4, 1874 Water is now selling for 25 cents per barrel. A slight shower of rain yesterday evening. The concert last night, so far as attendance was concerned, was a failure. The one to-night w ill not be. W.S. Wilhite, one of Sherman's most enterprising citizens, has sold out his property and returned to St. Louis. The H. & T. C.R.R. has been selling off lots in Sherman which it owns, wishing no interest in the doomed town. Mr. Nason, and several other carpenters who have been trying in vain to make a living in Sherman for a year or two, are fixing to depart, "shaking the dust from their feet." The Southern Hotel has changed hands as announced the other day. J.F. Jenkins, the new proprietor, paid $14,000 for the hotel and furniture. A Mr. Flanagan, from Missouri, is trying t o get some encouragement in starting a foundry in Sherman. He has the machinery etc., but wants some cash. A meeting was called yesterday evening, which was largely attended by 6 citizens, but no money raised. Another meeting is called for Monday night.
