SADLER FOUNDED AFTER RAILROAD
Special to The Democrat

Sadler - The first settler in the community that later became Sadler was A.J. Cross who came here with his wife and 6 daughters in 1869 and built a log cabin.
Other settlers followed but there was no thought of a central settlement until J.J. Sadler came here in 1887 and 3 years later donated the land for the Katy railroad, also establishing the first store and postoffice. The place was first called Talley before it took on the name of its principal fo under.
Three churches were built in 1897, the Methodist, Baptist and Christian.  The first school near here  was called Coon Flats.  A frame school building was later built here and it was replaced by a brick structure in 1939 and progress is being made toward its replacement.
