Galveston Daily Press September 14, 1889 BEES ON THE WARPATH They sting a Fine Horse to Death and Make a Vicious Attack on a Woman Sherman, Tex., Sept. 13 - Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Jack Walker, formerly of this city, miraculously escaped a horrible death at her home on a farm near Pottsboro. On the place there are quite a number of bees and the hives are only a few yards from the house. Yesterday a fine mare was left in the yard and in wandering about upset one of the hives. The vicious little insects swarmed on the defenseless animal and literally stung it to death, or at least stung it, so death resulted in a very short time. Mrs. Walker was in the yard at the time, and before she could get into the house for protection a number of the infuriated little creatures had allighted on her and inflicted several painful stings about the face and hands, causing them to swell out of all proportion. Medical attention was secured at once and Mrs. Walker is not resting easily.
