Pottsboro Came With Railroad
Special to The Democrat

Pottsboro - As was often the case in the establishment of settlements in earlier days, the town of Pottsboro took its name from the man who platted the town and gave the right of way for a branch of the Katy railroad, James A. Potts.
W.C. Porter was the first business man, opening a hotel.  W.C. Bennett soon followed with a general merchandise store.  Walter Reeves established a general store in 1880.
The post office was opened when the town was first laid out and the railroad completed through Pottsboro, with D.J. Lake as first postmaster.
A school was established soon after the settlement was formed and today Pottsboro has a 6-room brick school building where grammar grades and 2 years of affiliated high school work are taught.
There are 4 churches here: Methodist, Baptist. Church of Christ and Presbyterian.
