Quoted from McKinney
Enquirer
A
man named Sturdy was killed at Pilot Grove on the 6th inst. by a
Federal soldier. The circumstances, as near as we could learn
them, are about as follows:
Sturdy had been gambling and drinking,
and becoming boistrous, was ordered by the soldier, who was a sergeant,
to be quiet. It is said he hushed, and was molesting no one after
this, when the sergeant, who was drunk, stepped to the door of the
room, fired upon Sturdy, and killed him. - - - McKinney Enq.
