community of Pilot Grove was originally named Lick Skillet.
The name Pilot Grove came from the Pilot Grove Ranch
of J. P. Dumas. Mr. Dumas was interested in the development of the southeastern corner of Grayson County. This area already had a Post Office in 1858. Early settlers included: Bufrod Clement, Dick Brewer, C. W. Batsell, Frank Stinnett, Simon Sivells, W. D. Hoard, W. A.Kuykendall, Dr. W. H. Pierce and Dr. Wm. C.
