Thursday, December 29, 1927 pg. 1 Pilot Grove News A very pleasant Christmas has been enjoyed by everyone. Family reunions were boiled ham and turkey, with all the customary good things to eat, have been a delightful feature of the season here. The Christmas trees, at the school house Friday afternoon and one at the church Saturday night, were enjoyed by the children. Santa Claus came, and a distribution of fruit, nuts and candy was made to all the children and old people of the community. Miss Mary Scoggins who teaches at Southmayd, is spending the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Scoggins. Leonard Ward, from the Aviation training camp, San Antonio, is visiting relatives here this week. Miss Roberta Sloan, who is teaching at Merkel, arrived Sunday to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Sloan. Mrs. Bernice Davis of near Slaton is here for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.T. McSpedden. O.D. Hulett, who has been at Hollis, Oklahoma, the past several months, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burr Hulett. Miss Louvicy Neely, who teaches at Southmayd, arrived Saturday for a week's visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Neely. Mr. and Mrs. Will Judd of Dallas were guests of Mrs. Mary Judd Sunday. Mrs. Elmer St. John and little daughter of San Antonio are guests this week of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z.W. Binion. C.B. Neely, who has been in west Texas the past few months, is spending the holidays with his parents here. Orion Judd and Miss August Hughes of near Tom Bean were married December 24th. They will make their home here for the present. Mr. and Mrs. Howard McSpeeden and children of Greenville are spending part of the Christmas holidays here with relatives. Miss Lois and Doss Chism, students at Commerce, are spending the vacation with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Chism. Dr. and Mrs. Beardsley of Dallas were guests of her father, A.T. Scott, and other relatives here the first of the week. George Lovell of Ft. Worth, J.A. Lovell of Simmons College, Abilene, and Miss Ruth Lovell of Saginaw are guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Lovell, this week. Edgar Bow and sister, Miss Foy, who are attending school at Commerce, are spending the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.G. Bow. Miss Myrtle Cook is spending the week with relatives at Van Alstyne. Miss Gladys Oliphant of Denison was here Friday. She was accompanied home by her sister, Miss Helen Oliphant, who teaches in the school. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Caraway visited relatives at Celina the past weekend. Misses Cordelia Russell, Virginia Benson and Louise Sloan, students in the Whitewright high school, are spending the week here with their parents. Morris McCarley, who is attending school at Commerce, is spending the holidays here. Rufus Scott, who has been in west Texas the past few months, returned home last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Henderson of Anna have been visiting relatives here. The Tom Bean basketball team played the Pilot Grove boys here Thursday. The score was 16 to 22 in favor of the home boys. Members of the Methodist Church carried a nice Christmas pounding to their pastor, Rev. M.C. Sooter, and family at Anna Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Pascal Binion of Dallas were guests Sunday of Mr. Binion's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z.W. Binion. Dr. T.W. Cato and family of Farmersville spent Christmas here with relatives. Rev. John E. Dunn of Dallas will preach at the Christian Church next Sunday, the monthly preaching date having been changed from the 4th to the 1st Sunday in each month.
